[...] The Discworld Graphic Novels (Adaptations) Has anybody ever read any of the Discworld graphic novels? There are adaptations of Colour of Magic, Light Fantastic, Mort, & Guards Guards, some of which are actually pretty great (Mort and Guards Guards in particular are well done). Most of them aren't in print anymore, and Mort is especially difficult to get a hold of, which really surprises me. I first read most of these in my school's public library about 10 years ago, Mort especially made an impact on me and was actually my first introduction to the world of Discworld (after which I read all of the novels). I LOVED it, had a great pace, every scene helped lead to the next so there was a great pace to it all.

This movie IS for us. Noticed a lot of people in my audience weren’t laughing much (a few under-18s, and a few forty year olds all looked really lost), but me and my friends loved it, and we’re not even that nerdy!

Well, maybe I am… I thought I even noticed a small Conan the Destroyer reference…

Yes you are right, I have to admit that on the whole, the DC animated features are better quality and better entertainment than there Marvel direct-to-video counterparts.

It was not 100% original, but did not need to be and was well made and a lot of fun. It had to be the biggest single collection of DC comics heroes and villains since Crisis on Infinite Earths!

Right on man!

I liked the film as well, but it sees like we’re in the minority… I agree that keeping the book in 1985 was a wise choice. I was hoping it wouldn’t be set in the modern day. I’m glad you noticed the point about the music being time period appropriate, as a lot of younger comic fans thought the music was bizarre for the movie.

But they didn’t grow up in the 80′s.

Well, they do use it more on the recent films, though Darwyn Cooke’s art clearly inspired Justice League: The New Frontier, but if you look at DC’s animated series from the last few years (particularly Teen Titans and Batman: Brave and the Bold) it doesn’t show Timm’s style really.

This is a great move by DC and I hope it pays off. Pointing new readers towards quality material is a great way to increase the fan base of comics.

… I suppose we can assume movies for these promo comics are in the works. At least ‘Preacher’ is as they signed a director and script writer a few weeks ago. Too bad though, I really wanted ‘Preacher’ to be an HBO series where each episode is an issue.

That would have kicked ass.
