Comic books can be confusing. It’s unfortunate, but true. The medium has been around in its current form for almost a century, but once superheroes arrived, thanks to Superman’s debut in 1938’s Action Comics #1, everything changed. To say that superheroes are all that comic books are about is a gross understatement, but they are what the art form is primarily known for. Like film, TV or theatre, comics present every genre imaginable. The diversity is staggering, from crime, to romance, to horror, to fantasy, to genres that can only be told in the glorious world of sequential art (to give comic books their fancy name). Extra Sequential is a free, full colour bi-monthly magazine of about 60 pages. Our aim is to open the door to this world with no budgets, no actor’s demands, and no limits, to ease you into its captivating splendour. We will endeavour to break misconceptions and banish comic book confusion. We firmly believe that there is a comic book series out there for everyone. All it takes are a few recommendations, and a little searching. With Extra Sequential that search will become not only easier, but also rewarding. Basically, we’re just two guys with a passion for art and storytelling and a desire to let the world know what we’ve found. And who are we exactly?
Kris Bather is the former editor of the comics department at the now defunct Infuze and current contributor to comics site, Broken Frontier. Kris has been a fanboy since he can remember, and has a Superman tattoo to prove it. Dave Lapsley is everything Kris isn’t. A recent convert to the beauty of sequential art, Dave is a family man, avid surfer and technical go-to guy. He also devours cool novels and music with reckless glee.
Apart from the mag there will also be unique and regular news, reviews, previews and articles on this very site; all geared towards making the comic book curious become the comic book aficionado.
